I have a 86' Proline 23 CC the baitwells are very pooly designed and I need some advice. First of all there are two on the boat. One has a below the water thru hull fitting that is connected to the drain in the baitwell assuming when the boat is in the water it fills the well and when out of the water it drains the well... Problems... First of all the baitwell, if you open the lid its open at the top, so when I take off what water is in the tank flows out... Second issue is the baitfish require fresh water to pumped in regularly to stay alive any length of time. The other (larger) baitwell at the stern is more or less the same way except instead of a thru hull fitting there is a bottom through hull connected to a water faucet where you can fill the well and the drain plug leads to the stern when you drain it... No flow of fresh water, no nothing.... Here are the choices... do I glass the wells up to stop the over flow out of the top use a thru hull to bring in fresh water and install an additional thru hull for over flow, I can use the faucet for a salt water wash down... or do I just use thes baitwells for storage and purchase a say 40 gal. bait well and floor mount it behind the leaning post? I know this is an well its up to me type of question, the reason I am asking is do you guys think if I make these adjustments to the existing baitwell wold they as being as old as they are, work well? I doubt there is ver much insulation around the tanks to help keep them cool.
