Depends which type of "Bass" you are refering to. For Largemouth I like fishing spinnerbaits. They're easy to use, come in a large variety of shapes and sizes, and are effective. For Smallmouth on the rivers I like the jig and minnow combo. It is easier to control. In the lakes I like crankbaits fished perpendicular to the shore.

Both of you Gentlemen:

There as many answers to your Questions as there are fishermen in this world. Probably the most universally used bait is a jig, with appropriate trailers or live bait attached. Myself, I like spoons, spinners, spinnerbaits and Rapala and Bagley crankbaits for any freshwater fish. I prefer Rapala Magnums, poppers and live bait, sometimes on a jig, for striped Bass by any name.

One or two baits? Jigs and spoons will catch anything that eats other fish.

Good Fishing! By the way, the secret of success is to keep your line wet.

JB

Re: Baits?

My suggestion for the best baits for bass, largemouth or smallmouth, would be either Rapala crankbaits or spinnerbaits. There has been alot of hype over the Terminator spinnerbait, but they are just as good as advertised to be and you can get them for less at Wal-Mart in the FLW packages. I have also found that white works good under most conditions. Good Fishing!

------------------
Smitty

Re: Baits?

HI, for fishing bass first off when using new lures some of them will smell like a "new car" for example like new materials and plastic. Ever wonder why fish look like there gonna strike then when there right up close they'll just suddenly bolt well it's because they can taste the plastic scent which they dislike!! Thats why with jigs rub on a little salt this will also help fish hold on to the bait longer therefore giving you more time to set the hook. On actual hard plastic lures you should just try some of berkleys fish atractment, I find this all works very well for trying to catch bass. Hope all of this helps in your search for the big ones!!

P.S. Make sure that the atractment is bass atractment and not trout or walleye!!(some fish actually do have differnet tastes, experiment)

------------------
9((~< Canuck friends of fisherman everywhere!!

Re: Baits?

I know it varies a lot by lake, but I fish a 200 acre lake with stained (not muddy) water with a straight tailed black, purple or raspberry 6" snelled worm with white racing stripes on the sides, weighted with a split shot at the head (1/16th ounce). I know it sounds crazy, but it drives the bass wild!~ Try flippin' the docks with it sometime.
