baitwell drain

I have a 1993 Lund Tyee Grand Sport that I bought this past winter. I had it in in the water for the first time this past weekend and was checking everything out. I turned the livewell/baitwell pump on to make sure it worked. When I pulled the drain plug to drain the baitwell in the rear of the boat, water started coming in thru the drain? The front livewells drained somewhat, it was pretty choppy so you could see the water rising and falling in the livewell drain. The front livewells drain straight down thru the hull while the rear baitwell drains out thru the transom. Is this normal or was it doing it because it was so choppy?

I think you're right that it was just choppy that day and water was coming up over the drain outlet on the transom.
