hello all-
I'm new to the forum, and also purchased my "first" boat recently. anyhow, to the puropse of the post! The boat is an 89 baja sunsport 196. It has a 5.7 with a yamaha outdrive. The the boat weighs 2300 lbs, so with a 350 i presume it'll run pretty well once i get the right prop. The current prop is an aluminum, and i believe is says " 21- w" .. but the prop has a layer of paint making it difficult to read. am i correct in assuming the 21 is the pitch? I want to go stainless, and apparently quiksilver makes an adapter so i can run a turbo prop, or possibly a mercury. I know the yamaha outdrives are fairly obsolete, so i think i'll go that route. And furthermore... does anyone have experience with a similar setup that can point in the right direction as far as prop selection and speeds? thank you for your time

There may be numbers under the prop nut.
Its best to run some tests and get the max rpm and speed with your 21" prop and go from there.A prop shop can measure your prop if any doubt.
It is probably something like 14 X 21.You select the prop for your application by the pitch and the diameter follows the design. With the numbers from your tests a prop estimate can be done.
