Can someone tell me how to keep the engine from turning when removing the balancer bolt on a 224 merc with stator? If I use an impact gun will it damage the stator?

Re: Balancer removal

Got the balancer off. Impact gun didn't work....junk gun. Managed to put an open end wrench on one of the fins of the balancer to lock it on the floor of the bilge. Then used a crescent wrench to hold the balancer puller from turning :D . More disassembly today. Does the front motor mount assembly NEED to come off? I'm afraid of what I might find when I unbolt it from the floor  Not to mention my engine hoist might not be tall enough

Didn't need to remove front mount, but do need a repair sleeve for the camshaft nose. Does anyone know if it is a standard size? Or do I need to mic it? I have cams at work I can get a size from.
