Balancing trailer wheels?

One of my trailer wheels seems to have a wobble or vibration of some sort - I can see it in my rear view mirror at highway speeds. It even shutters the uprights that help guide the boat onto the trailer (don't know the name).

So the question is: should have that wheel balanced by an auto shop!?

I recommend looking for defects in the tire or a bent rim first. Jack it up and spin the tire. Look for wobbles or bumps in the tread.

Agree with Brian. How old are the tires?

I always get new tires balanced.

If you can see it then the rim is messed up, tire is incorrectly mounted or tire is bad. For the balancing - refer to the other 8000 threads on this issue and then do whatever makes you feel good ;)

Check the tire like mentioned above. I balance my trailer tires.

You may have a tread separation on that tire....when they do that, they will appear to wobble and vibrate badly, Just before they come apart going down the road!...the voice of experience here! I can't imagine why anyone would NOT balance a trailer tire...after all, it's back there running the same speed as your tow vehicle. About 3 years from the date of manufacture on the sidewall and trailer tires become suspect to me....in fact I replace mine at 3 years....why risk a blow-out on the interstate at 70MPH over 2 or 3 hundred dollars worth of tires?...ain't worth it!....
