Took these pics from my kitchen window today. Mouth of the Nanticoke River, Eastern Shore, MD.

I never saw a Bald Eagle catch a fish before. Pretty cool....

I tried to run out there to catch some closer shots, but that bird was quick! Just hover, swoop, snatch a fish, and gone up to the big tree.......

Sorta warms your heart and makes you proud to see those great birds thriving in the wild. Wife and I see lots of Bald Eagles along the St. Johns River in Florida. They keep their nests in the tops of old cypress trees overlooking the river....looks like a pretty easy life style to me...swoop down, grab a fish, have supper in the top of the tree, repeat!:)

Great shots! I used to watch one on our lake when she'd nest close to the cottages. So cool.

Re: Bald Eagle fishing in my cove

The Eagle just showed up as I was browsing iBoats forums from my laptop at the counter!

I was in mid-post about anti-siphon valves or something, then look up and think "That's a pretty big Osprey.......HEY! That's an Eagle fishing?"

Over the years, I've seen Eagles with fish, but never fishing. I thought they were maybe scavenging. I didn't know they could actually fish, like Ospreys do every day, in my cove, stealing the fish I was planning to catch later. This dude looked like a giant Osprey in all his glory.

I was surprised he could even see a fish with water so choppy. Really, It was too windy for Ospreys.

Got this in the email a couple of days ago.

Ever See An Eagle Do The Breast Stroke?
This footage was taken at Mallard Lakes subdivision in Baton Rouge .
Someone had shot a nutria (river rat), and it was floating dead in the water.
I can't believe what this eagle did to bring that nutria in.
I never saw an Eagle doing a breast-stroke before.

Holy Moly!! I've never seen anything like that either. But to me, it looks more like the 'butterfly' stroke. Michael Phelps may want to take some lessons.

Beautiful - they are coming back strong; we are seeing some on a reservoir right outside of Wash DC, and there have been other pairs spotted around the general area. They are now allowing some Native American tribes to take some for religious purposes. Wouldn't it be something to be as free as that eagle?

The eagle was back today, trying to have lunch on my pier.

The dang buzzards were irritating him, so he finally picked up his fish and left.

they really seem to be, don't they?
several weeks ago one flow across the road when I was driving to work, a rare sight on the plains of CO.

Guess they came back so strong they don't even do a count of them anymore

broken down by state FL had the most by far. I always considered them more of a mountain dweller.

That was because there were only 48 states listed. I am pretty sure we have more Bald Eagles than FL. :) Alaska is part of the United States, no matter what most people think.
I took several pictures of an immature one with a fish on Sunday. Look up Haines, AK and Bald Eagles on your favorite search site. There will be pictures of them by the hundreds.

Great shots man, thanks for sharing.. Eagles around here are few a far but this year I have had the privlidge of seeing a couple already.

Amazing how that eagle shows his stuff to those buzzards. You can really see how stout and large the eagle is next to a buzzard that is no slouch itsself.
