Anyone know where I can get a ballast resistor, or at least tell me what resistance it is so I can find a substitute? I called a Mercruiser dealer and they say it is no longer available.
George

Engine is a 1969 250 cu. in. GM 160HP (Mercruiser model 160)

1.4 ohm is most common value for ballast resistors. You could most likely use any automotive ballast resistor without a problem. It just might not be as tolerant to a marine environment, so I'd spray a rust/corrosion inhibitor over it to be sure.

Chrysler used bar resistors late 70s early 80s
that will work. Check back of resistor it
must be sealed - no spring showing.
Any auto parts.
You can also use a coil marked -
Internal resistor
