I am buying a Barefoot Nautique with a 454 engine in it. I am wondering if anyone is familiar with this boat....they also made a "non-barefoot" model the same year witha 350 engine in it...but as I look around the web...the models with the 350 seem to hold a higher value than the 454. Anyone know why? It making me a little nervous now and I am supposed to buy the boat in the morning. Is there a history of problems with this engine?

areeser,
From what I would guess, its the fuel economy of a 454 vs a 350 that's what I would bet on for lower resale.
Just a guess!

Rob

Re: barefoot nautique

Nautiques with the 350 or 351 were approved by USA Waterski for 3 event (trick slalom jump) while the Barefoot Nautiques only for ...Barefooting. Larger engine higher top end. More than needed for traditional (3 event waterskiing). Outboards proved to be better yet and Correct Craft discontinued the Barefoot Nautique. Main reason for not using the big block in 3 event skiing was the increased weight translated into a biger wake. Since the 350/350 provided more than enough performance the big blocks are not a sought after boat. Gas milage significantly worse than the small block. Correct Craft builds some of the highest quality hulls in the industry.

You shouldn't worry about the 454. It's as solid as the 350, just not as widly produced (although there are millions of 454s on the road).

Your boat should do fine.

Enjoy the extra horspower :) and the extra gas consumption :(
