Barefoot on non-skid painted surface?

This is a pretty easy, basic question. I just replaced the deck on my boat and am debating whether I should put down carpet or paint it with Interlux/Petit non-skid. It's a 19' bowrider and we'll be barefoot most of the time. I've always preferred a gelcoat, molded non-skid deck the manufacturers provide, as it's cleaner than carpet, so I figure paint will be a better solution. I don't have much experience with the non-skid paints, will I be ok using it for this use? I don't want something that will be too rough on our feet as we're having fun in the sun! I can put marine carpet down if necessary. Thanks!

iboats sells non skid paint additive that would help.

I used Rustoleum anti-slip additive. It works great and isn't too bad on bare feet, but if you are barefoot most of the time, it might be a little rough.

What about snap-in carpet? Best of both worlds.

Re: Barefoot on non-skid painted surface?

I have a 1989 Invader boat that I am restoreing and like you, I prefer the non-skid gelcoat or painted floor instead of carpet because after fishing all day all I have to do to clean it is spray it down with the water hose. I found that the big marine stores like to charge way to much for there products. I found marine grade boat floor paint for $11.95 qt. and the non-skid additive at Lowes hardware store. This paint is just as good as the paint that the marine store sells for 36.99 qt. and it does not hurt your feet. Hope this helps.

The Scout is factory nonskid and i must say, it gets hard on the old feet after a while. I usually wear sandals or crocs most of time. Still - i really like the durability and ease of cleanup.

Good info all around, thanks everyone. I guess I could consider applying gelcoat and using some sort of non-skid roller. Any recommendations, or should I steer away from that idea?

Check in the restoration section here. We have a few people who apply gel-coat darn near weekly on repairs.

I will move your post there and hopefully a few of those "pro's" will chime in ;)
