I found a 2003 bass cat with a mariner 2.5 200 hp thought was 2003 found out it's 1993. Tried new plugs new fuel new oil and she started right up but sounded bad. So i tried to check comp all tested 120 except 1 tested 30 top left sound like big trouble? also boat sat 3 years.

Re: Barn find

#2 being low is probably an indication of a prior overheat. You can remove that piston and replace it without tearing the whole motor down. Pull that head off and have a look. 93 2.5's are nice motors to work on and can be made to produce some pretty awesome hp. It's also a sleeved motor and a single sleeve replacement is not that hard although it does require a tear down. If the price is right I'd snatch it up.

120 is good compression, re-read the first answer to your post for that answer to your other question.

Re: Barn find

If it just a crack in the sleeve, the sleeve can be replaced.

Many would jump at a chance to own that motor.

Re: Barn find

If the sleeve and aluminum cylinder barrel are only cracked it can be repaired by resleeving and welding. Post a picture of it as I have seen very few that I couldnt repair or get repaired.
