I am new to this website and this is my first post, maybe someone out there can help me.
I bought a 5 HP Eska at a estate sale and was told that this motor was last used in 1975 and has not been cranked since then. The motor is clean and it looks almost new. I carried it home and put some gas in it,pulled it a couple of times and it ran great.
The Model number is 1705-E and the serial number is 2M256547 I will need to put a new water pump on it if I can find out where I can buy one.
Any information will he help
Also what is the Oil Mixture for this year and model.

Check out http://home.earthlink.net/~brixent/Model1931-1976.htm It gives spark plug, gas/oil info etc. Note, the J13Y spark plug is obsolete and has been replaced with an RJ12YC
It is a 1975 5.5 HP. The 1975 doesn't represent the year in Eska model #'s, it just so happens to match with your motor.
It uses a Tecumseh air cooled motor with a water cooled lower end (exhaust). Don't run the motor out of water or you will damage the impeller.
Sears also had Gamefisher outboards that were identical to the Eska's as the Gamefisher's were made by Eska. Some of the common replacement parts are available at sears. I believe your motor would be identical to a Sears Gamefisher model 217585710. You can check out http://tinyurl.com/chhl5e and will find that that motor is likely identical to yours.
According to the Eska service manual, as well as some Eska owners manuals I have from that timeframe, your motor uses 32:1 TC-W (now TC-W3) oil. It sounds kind of crazy with the motor having an air cooled head, but that's what it says. Probably due to the water cooled lower end, therefore exhaust port. It also states to use 24:1 if you use "a good grade outboard motor oil", which would be chainsaw type oil.

Its a 1973 5 hp Tecumseh engine per Discount marine parts. They are the only ones that supply parts from what Ive found. But be aware they will charge an arm and a leg for any parts they do have. I would run 50:1 you should be safe with that.

This guy seems to know what hes talking about. I wouldnt have even posted if this would have been here earlier. We posted almost the same time.

Re: Barn Find

The Champion RJ12YC is hard to find locally and actually burns hotter for the richer oil mix i.e 32:1 pre TCW3 oil, the RJ14YC is the plug of choice for 50:1 mixes and with TCW3 oil you will do just as well at say 40:1.
if the impeller is the short Eska impeller then you can use sierra part number 18-3054, I would replace the fuel pump element (pictured) and get a needle, viton seat and gasket, flapper valve and gasket then replace the fuel lines... you will need to change the O ring in the fuel shut off valve as well.
About the time you think you have it ready to go the old rubber parts will start falling apart

It uses a Tecumseh air cooled motor with a water cooled lower end (exhaust).

that an't exactly whats going on. I know, facts are hard for some people but the water pump isn't for the lower end although I guess it keeps the paint from peeling, if you had ever had one of these engines apart you might know what actually happening with the water pump...LMAO @ water cooled lower end for the 100th time or better...hey how about water cooled bottom of the engine?

Re: Barn Find

If you change any O rings make sure they are made to come in contact with gas. Regular rubber O rings will swell up like a balloon when in contact with gasoline or hydraulic fluid. Found that out the hard way in A&P School.

Re: Barn Find

I used some that came with a carb kit from Eskaman2008, I doubled them on the fuel shut off and they have about 2 years on them, I use my engines so I expect to change them now and then anyway. but I have seen them melt when a engine has set for 10yrs and you pour the ethanol gas to them...viton gets real sticky too.

Re: Barn Find

Eskaman2008 from ebay has everything you need in one handy place, or you could call the really nice people at www.certifiedpartscorp.com who supply the world with Eska parts and get the best deal...be sure you have your model number and a parts list, search ebay for Eska carb kits to see what your looking for...if its as low hour as you think its worth rebuilding and using.
Best of Luck,
