Need a little info till I can get my hands on a service manual. Looking for WOT RPM range and curious if the VRO pump is in the oil res or in the motor itself. Oh yeah........ lower unit gear ratio also. Thanks...........<br /><br />/mike
You'll want to target 6000 rpm with an average load. That motor didn't have a VRO but it did come with an OMS (oil metering system) pump. It's on the port side of the motor. The gas and oil line run to it, there is a pulse hose hooked to it and a single outlet going to the carb bodies.<br /><br />The gear ratio depends on which length motor you have. The 20" motors were 2:1.
I'm thinkin' mine is a 25"......... it's got the V6 gearcase. Are there any discussions here on the difference between the VRO and OMS systems. And are there any advantages/disadvantages or concerns regarding either the 20" vs. 25" or the different gearcases. Thanks............<br /><br />/mike
