Basic info on a 1996 Force 90

Apparently I've been successful, so far anyway, in salvaging a 96 Force 90 that had a frozen piston due to leaking head gasket (bought boat assuming the motor was toast). So far the only cost has been the head gasket, I was able to salvage the piston & rings. So now, I've got this thing starting and running okay in my driveway but I have a few questions:

1. This is a differnet kind of choke from what I'm used to. I don't need to understand how it works, I assume the little solenoid thingy somehow dumps in some extra fuel to start it? Do I keep the key switch pushed in while it's starting?

2. Apparently there is no idle speed control, (not the carb adjustment)? I'm again used to some type of idle speed lever on the controls. Is there some means of adjusting idle speed while your starting warm vs. cold, etc?

3. Lastly, there's a "advanced throttle control" button thing where the shift lever pivots, does this do something?

Thanks,

Great news on getting it running.

You are correct, the choke is not a conventional choke.
It is better identified as a fuel enrichment valve.

The fast idle is built into the shift handle.
I'm assuming this is a Quicksilver 3000 control unit?

Push the button located at the pivot point of the shift handle. This will disengage the shift mechanism and allow you to push the handle forward to increase the throttle, while the engine will remain in neutral.

It operate, you should pump the fuel line primer bulb to give it fuel pressure.

Advance the throttle about 3/4-way using the "throttle only" button to disengage the shifter.

Push in the key, this opens the fuel enrichment valve and dumps fuel into the intake. Continue holding the key in, and now turn the key to the start position.

Continue holding the key in until the engine fires, then release it.
Be ready to slowly pull back on the throttle handle as the rpm's rise.

Cool, I think that answers everything! I didn't notice anything like Quicksilver 3000 but it sounds like your description is right on.
