Hey y'all I'v got few questions regarding appropriate parts for my 94 4.3 mercruiser.
Spark plugs
Cap and Rotor
Oil
Oil filter
I'm asking because I've done a lot of searching and calling marine shops and just keep getting different answers. So if someone could please clarify I'd greatly appreciate it.

Also I noticed a little sputter at WOT the other day and I thought it felt like a fuel issue. I'm guessing there is a filter somewhere? And which filter do I get?

Thanks!

Re: Basic Maintenance Questions

Google mercury parts catalog and save it to favorites, you just plug in your serial and pull the numbers from the pictures.

Re: Basic Maintenance Questions

Spark plugs - BR6FS (any car parts shop, or here at iboats)
Cap and rotor - Merc specific, or shop for after-market on iboats.
Oil - Any good quality 25W-40 oil, to the latest S spec. (Personally, I use a diesel engine oil in my 4.3)
Oil filter - again, here on iboats.

Splutter at WOT, could be plugs, or fuel filter. The filter is located on the starboard side of the front of the engine, down low, about the same level as the crankshaft front pulley.

Re: Basic Maintenance Questions

i like to get my oem part numbers here (they got pics). then i either go up to my local mercruiser dealer and get them (confirming with them that i got the right parts number so we agree i'm likely to get the proper parts) or, if i want aftermarket, i have the oem part number to refer to so i can get the proper after market part, which i would try to get from iboats first. ;)

Re: Basic Maintenance Questions

If you are now a boat owner and plan on doing your own maintenance and repairs like many of us on this forum you will need a factory service manual. They are invaluable for what you need to know. When I got my first I/O I ask the good folks on here to tell me where to get the proper one for my boat. The site was given and I downloaded it the entire manual onto my thumbdrive. Now I just call up the info I need and just copy those pages and add them to a loose leaf notebook as needed. Have everything I need to know and have pictures to boot!!
