Hello. Recently purchased a 2000 Glastron SX175. The plan was to refurbish/restore this back to original. The boat itself is in great shape for the age, but now that I have had a day to really look the engine over, I am seeing some things that I am unsure of. This is a 3.0GS-MEFS with an SX-M 1.97 outdrive. This has not been run in at least 2 years, and the history of it before then is unknown since the guy I bought it from purchased it at an auction with the same intentions as me.
What I was told is that it needed a starter and it had a throttle issue. I knew walking into this that this wouldn't be the case. I have already uncovered an exhaust issue and I can assume that will prevent me from starting it before it is fixed. It appears that the port on the exhaust pipe that connects the hose to the exhaust riser has broken off somehow leaving the hose dangling.
But, what I am looking for from some of you guys is a good way to methodically step through this engine to determine whether or not it is worth sinking some money into. So far, I have sprayed some fogging oil into it, and pulled the starter. He had the replacement starter to go with it, but it was the wrong one, so I will be ordering a starter tonight. I will be picking up some oil and a filter, fuel filter, impeller and spark plugs sometime this week. Once I get some of those items on hand, I need to know where to start to assess this thing. I assume making sure it isn't seized up would be #1 and a compression check on the cylinders.
Thanks
