I have a bass boat that I am going to redo the floor covering this weekend. I am thinking of going back with carpet, but I read all the negative about using carpet. I have considered using bedliner type product, or Skid-Not from Lowes. Any ideas or suggestions.

Thanks
Jimmy

Re: Bass Boat Flooring

A friend of mine recently coated the inside of his aluminum flat bottom with a professionally sprayed product normally used on truck beds. He likes it allot and it seems to be a little lighter than carpet. A side benefit he mentioned is that his 12 yr old son can walk on it in the sun in his bare feet without slipping or being too hot. He used a light gray color.
Apparently his son hates shoes in the summer.

I am a carpet hater, especially in a fishing boat. I use a light color poly porch floor paint with traction grit added. Easy boat clean-up and does not hold the moisture. Quick and easy touch-up, if required.

Carpet, like a floor, belongs in a house.

Even bassrockets have decks, not floors, and they do very well with bedliner type coverings on the decks. Don't hold water, don't hold fermenting fish remains, don't grab dropped hooks and don't abrade knees.

All good points about carpet... but carpet does do one thing for a fishing boat that paint doesn't. It helps deaden the sounds people make moving about in the boat, which helps keep fish from being spooked.

That won't outweigh the cons for your average fisherman, but for a top professional, it might.

Going back to the original question, I don't have much experience with the Lowes brand, but I do know that your standard Rhino liner is slippery when wet. I don't know how well it would work out, but I would think you could manage to just add sand to resin to create a no-slip surface, you could even add pigment for whatever color you wanted.

I used a non-skid paint from West Marine to redo the decks on my Skeeter. I couldn't be happier with the finished product. It makes cleanup much easier. Just hose off and let dry.

I personally think carpet belongs in a bass boat. Not in any other boat, but it should be in a bass boat. But, as far as what yall are looking at, I would say TUFF COAT. It is sold at BPS, and Cabelas, among other places.

Carpet are in bass boats cause the makers put it in them.
Good enough for me.
The carpet in my Gambler hates hooks.
They won't get stuck in it for some reason.
Maybe the type it is.

I notice the absence of anyone weighing in on marine vinyl. Is it hated that much or used that rarely?
