I am getting ready to recarpet my bassboat, but the problem I am facing is that the old carpet didn't cover the whole bow just inset sections. I want to cover the entire area, but I don't want it to be unlevel. I have attached pictures below of the recessed flooring where the carpet was previously and I want to know what I can do to level the floor evenly so that the carpet will have the best look and feel.

Re: Bassboat Flooring???

When I had my kitchen floor recovered they poured down some type of leveling compound where there was missing tile. It cured to about the same hardness as linoleum. Can't think of the name of it though...

I'm sure there's some custom just-for-boats marine leveling compound out there for a thousand bucks a gallon that is designed for just what you're asking but if it were mine and I was cheap (which I am) I'd just clean off all the glue, cut some linoleum to fit and fill the void, glue it down and lay carpet.

Then put that bass boat to work 'fore the spawns over!

That sounds like it would work, but I was wondering if I could just spread extra glue in that section to fill in the recess and less glue on the higher areas. I guess I could always fiberglass the recessed area and make the entire bow level, but I am still looking for an easier option.:D

Not sure which glue you're using but the stuff I used on my carpet never really dried hard. Judging by you photos it looks like you'd need over 1/4" of it to level out the carpet. I fear that might be a bit much and it'd never dry and be squishy under the carpet. The 'glass would work but it would take longer, probably cost more and to be honest, I'd rather wrestle a cactus than mess with the stuff. I'll poke around today and see if I can find the name of that compound.

Cool, thanks buddy. It will cost me about $30 to fill it up with epoxy resin, but one side of the deck makes a crunchy sound when so it might be just as well to fiberglass it in and hope for the best...throw me the name of that compound if you remember it.

Well, I dug around for a little over an hour and couldn't find anything that wasn't gypsum or portland cement based... probably not the best option for a bass boat.:D The only mention of such a modification used fairing compound but it was only used to even out waves in the 'glass.

Not sure if the pourable transom products would hold up to foot traffic on a flexing deck but if it would it might be another option.

Or you could just deck over the entire thing and build it to suit your needs...

Hmmm... if the deck is cracking then a few layers of 'glass wouldn't be a bad thing. The resin alone won't do it. It's far too brittle on it's own and would just shatter under your carpet.

That's what I figured. Since I have the boat completely stripped down I might as well do everything right...better to be proactive rather than reactive, lol. Thanks for your help and hopefully I can get this finished soon so that I can get out there and catch some hawgs! I have attached a couple of pics of the freshly sanded floor with the first coating of epoxy resin.
