Hey guys,
I'm new to this site and boating. I'm trying to find out a little about inverters and batteries. I have SeaRay 215 EC Cuddy. I was looking at getting an additional deep cycle battery and a 1500-2000 Watt inverter.

The battery would be dedicated for the inverter. We have a seperate battery for starting and running the boat. We only plan on running items occasionally, such as a small George Foreman grill or the occassional blender  and maybe a small fan for camping over night. We trailer the boat, so I'd be putting my float charger on the battery(ies) when not in use.

I think that covers everything? Any advice?

We'd appreciate any help.

Re: Batteries and inverters

Heating applicances like electric frying pans, grills, and motor driven items draw a large amount of current and will kill a battery in a hurry. You really need lots of battery power to run these items. Look at the current requirements tag on those applicances (watts). A simple hair dryer is a 1500 watt unit and is used only for a short period but a frying pan or grill would need much more power for much longer periods of time. Add the fact that inverters are 85% efficient so you have a 15% power loss in the conversion process.
