Stowaways have been dying prematurly on me. Does anyone have any suggestions on a quality deep cycle? Additionally, has anyone ever added electrolytes to a battery to add life? Also not sure about maintainence free types?

seems like 60% are built by interstate batteries. what motor are you using? i use to change the electrolytes in older batteries, i would dump the old stuff, was them out add new elect, charge them up and use for trolling battery. the would last me a weekend.

Its a motor guide / 24V / 67lb

Did adding the electrolytes extend the life of the batteries for a good while? Would you get that from an autoparts store?

The Trojan 30XHS 130 amp hour 12v deep cycle is very good I have 6 in my GEM electric car the hardest application for any deep cycle battery.
My car will reduce these powerful batteries to 40% in less than an hour run time yet they will last 3 years with good care. These cars use about 500 amps hill climbing or hard acceleration.A deep cycle has a finite number of charge cycles based on a 40% cycle. The less a battery discharges with each use the more cycles it will go through. So the heavier the battery
the longer its life cycle.a 30xhs is about $150.Another way to go is the 6volt or 8 volt golf cart battery.Excellent storage capacity and a better price.
I would stick with Deka or Trojan.for these.

Stoways are not a true deep cycle battery they are cranking batteries also.
With a 24V motor it would depend on how much space for batteries you had as to whether or not to get three 8V batteries.

Dual purpose batteries don't like being discharged deeply, no matter what the manufactuer says. What kind of charger do you use? Do you charge them up as soon as you run them down?
Both will have an effect on life cycle and the ability to hold a charge. You should not need to add electrolyte, the acid / lead balance is built into the battery unless spilled. If your charger has an equalize cycle try that. It drives the SO2 off the plates and back into the electrolyte.

Electrolyte is not the reason batteries die.
1. sulfation, caused by chronic undercharging and storage at less than full charge.
2. overcharging, excess charging current, excess charging temperature accelerates the shedding of material from the positive plates, shorting out the cells.
3. loss of water due to lack of maintenance in especially hot weather.
4. shock and vibration.
