Hello Everyone,

I'm running a 1965 Johnson 90HP on a 17' 1965 Slickcraft. I want to replace the battery and am looking for some suggestions on what to replace it with in terms of battery type, Chemistry, and cold cranking amps(or MCAs). The battery in there now is an old car battery and not something I should use as a guide for the new one. The motor has no charging system and the battery is mostly used for starting but also runs some limited electronics on the boat. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Re: Battery Advice

I will assume "limited electronics" means a fishfinder or GPS and a radio, none of those use enough power to hurt a battery so unless you are using a trolling motor you should be fine with a good starting battery as long as you keep up on charging it.

Go with a marine battery, they are a little more heavy duty than car batteries and you get what you pay for so get the biggest one your wallet allows, you can go to small but you can't go too big.

that old motor requires quite a bit, to turn it over, and it has to turn +-300 rpms, to start. as said go a many CCA as you can afford.
