Battery Boxes

I'm getting ready to install a replacement deep cycle battery in my center console boat. I see that the old battery trays don't seem to be available any more. All I see now are full height boxes. I'm going to guess that this has to do with some regulation. All of the boxes are a bit high for me to slide in the hatch opening without cutting the box height down. This is from looking at specs, I'll do the in-store measurements soon. So, are the "trays" gone?

Trays are all over the place, just picked up another this year in a group 27 size. Didn't but it from Amazon but here is one for a group 24

Gil and other high end ones still make theirs but they are high dollar

Yes -- battery trays are stocked in virtually any auto store and any big box store that sells boating supplies. Even my local Farm store sells them in the Automotive dept.

I see what I need online, but I want to use my boat and don't want to wait until parts arrive (trying to maximize my time in warm weather before I head back North for the holidays). Locally, I have tried Autozone, Advance, Pep Boys, Walmart, hardware stores that carry marine supplies and Worst Marine. I'm striking out everywhere. You'd think that down in the greater Fort Myers area that these things shouldn't be hard to find in a store. I may just use the existing tray (Group 24) and hold off getting a Group 27 battery until a later time.

I don't understand your logic. If you are going to use the existing battery and tray, why not order the tray you need now. When you get ready to install the bigger battery you will have it. Did you check right here on IBoats? If you had you would have found this and with expedited shipping it would be in your hands quickly.:

If you checked Autozone, what did you actually ask for? Out of curiosity I checked their web site and they do indeed show a battery tray, which happens to be identical to the one I bought from my local farm store. While they may not have it in the store, they can certainly order it for you and have it in a day or two. Same for all the other places you went. At any of these stores if you talk with anyone under the age of 20 they probably don't have a clue what you are talking about.

I like a deep box my self, its a just in case the battery springs a leak

Silvertip, called Autozone, guy went and check, all they had were boxes, no trays. Reason for the rush was to get boat time in before leaving for a month, hence, no ordering online. Rush shipping is like $50 on a $10 item. Also, just discovered in the last day that the battery is trash. Present tray is for size 24. I want to go up in size, not remain in 24, tray only fits 24. To get back on the water, I need a battery NOW, and a tray to fit. Hope that explains it. I could use a size 24, but almost all comments on the boards say get the largest battery that your boat will accommodate. So, it's 27/29.

Hawker, reason for the tray is that the box height won't fit through my opening in the CC and it would be most difficult with the battery inside it.

FYI, I called Basspro, about an hour away, they claim to have a tray that will suffice. Hopefully I'm back on the water in 2 days, weather permitting. Thanks.

I hate boxes. I only use trays. Last tray I put in is one I made by welding up some stainless steel I had around.
