Got a 93 115hp Johnson that I need to replace the battery cables from the engine to the battery and was wondering if anyone could help me with figuring what size cables I need. I called a marine store and they was asking what amps are drawn from my alternator and questions like that. I looked at the old cables and couldnt find any info. Any help will be highly appreciated.

Re: Battery cables

I would suggest at least 6 gauge wire 4 would be better. I saved some money by going to my local auto parts and bought a set of decent jumper cables and put new ends on them, cost less than $20.

Hey, that's a clever idea. Jumpers go on sale cheap a lot. Thanks!

If your going to be running your boat around salt water, I'd recommend against the typical jumper cable route ... in favor of ABYC approved tinned copper Type III cable like Ancor sells. Considerably more expensive, but it will hold up against corrosion a lot better!
