A second, and much more important reason in my opnion, for using battery boxes is that it give the lid something to set on. What you are trying to do is protect the terminals from having a conducting material fall down on them and short them out. As for the acid, well, I drill holes in the bottom of my boxes so they will drain. And acid spill, which I've never had happen, won't hurt the glass. You absolutly must strap the batterys down though.<br /><br />Thom
