battery charge

o the RPM's have to be at any certain range to check my battery voltage to see if they are being charged?? Merc 150 carb motor

engine at idle should be greater than 14 volts, but no more than 15.5 or so at any rpm.

Warm the engine and idle in neutral, ensure there is no load on starter battery for instance radios,pumps,lights etc. Voltage should be about 13.8v and rise by about 1v if you put it to fast idle.
