I am looking for a good battery charger. It would be nice if it could also start a car or lawn tractor if needed. I have a Schumacher WM-1200A that worked OK but needs to be replaced. Looking for an up grade in about the $100 range. Interested in hearing about what make and model battery charger has worked well for you.

Re: Battery charger advice

I got a pretty good automatic battery charger at Walmart for about $50, has the 2 amp, 10 amp and starting settings, I use mostly the 2 amp for overnight charging, seems to work fine. I believe the automatic feature is very important to prevent overcharging. Good luck!

when getting a new charger and spend the extra for a smart charger....its different than a automatic.....a smart charger will adjust the amp charge as needed and taper it as it charges to stop boil outs...and plate bridgeing....it will also float charge as needed....some have a de-sulphate mode to help clean the plates....Wal Mart has one called the ship and shore its around 50 bucks....

they do have a smart charger with a start feature also.....but may not do deep cycle batteries incase you have one....

I bought a smart charger from Canadian tire it has alot of features and also a digital guage and it does 2,10,15 amp charging. I dont know if your in canada but it sells for a little over $100.00, Spend the money and get something good that will last and you will appreciate.

You're not going to find a charger for $100 that will also have the boost feature to jump start a car...unless it's from Harbor Freight...
