Re: Battery Charger for 12 volt Trolling motor
You don't need a "marine" charger but the charger you have must be capable of charging deep cycle batteries and most do. What is important with chargers is that the best type is one that is "smart" -- meaning it knows how to charge a deep cycle battery and knows when to shut off and "float". Most older chargers are not "smart" chargers and they must be monitored closely to prevent overcharging. Most folks who have trolling motors on their boats install an on-board charger which is a smart charger, is water proof and is mounted permanently in the boat. You simply plug into household power at the dock or run an extension cord to the dock if necessary. Guest, Pro-Mariner, Minnkota, and others manufacture on-board chargers. Get one right here on iBoats.
