Battery Charge.jpg

Have a Wellcraft Monte Carlo 1987 with this battery charger inside. I don't believe it is working as there is no change to the volt meter when I flick the switch on the Breaker Panel for this. I have put a meter on the batteries and there is no change to the meter when I turn the charger on. It did work and would cook the batteries if left on for long length of time. Would like to know if I can buy a new smart electronic type bat. charger and just wire it up as this older unit is wired up. Say to put the shore 120V wires to the new unit and put the output wires on the same ones as the old unit? Plug and play so to say.

Yes that is exactly what you can do. Buy your new battery charger, remove the old charger and wires and replace with the new charger and wires to the same places your removed the old ones from. Make sure you get the polarities correct and no problems. And happy boating... :thumb:

Agree with gm, get one about the same output listed as a 3-stage charger. Can even get one that is switchable for AGM, gel and standard lead acid
