battery charger??

I have a '63 75 hp johnny, and my question is: does my motor actually recharge my battery? Or should I charge it myself? Model #v4a-15e

easiest way to check would be to fire it up and put a meter on the battery. If it's charging you should get 13-14 volts on the terminals. 12 or lower if not
