is there a different type of battery charger for marine batteries ? i have a Vector 093 which i use for autos. it has a lot of fancy gizmo buttons on it and an instruction book written by a non english speaking chinaman. the booklet says it is for auto batteries only and i think that is to deter anyone from charging flashlite batteries etc. But a marine battery is a lead/acid like a car's.

Any battery charger that will charge a auto battery will cahrge a marine battery. Just keep in mine a deep cycle battery does not need charged all the time. Your outboard engine should keep your cranking battery charged up.
I would suggest an onboard charger, either 2 or 3 bank is fine.

Re: battery chargers

okey, dokey, now as a follow up, should i be using low 2 amperage slow charging setting? will a higher setting say a 10 or 20 amp give me a problem?

Re: battery chargers

If you're using an automotive type charger, be sure it's the automatic "smart" type that reduces the charge to zero when the battery is fully charged. Otherwise you run the risk of boiling away the electrolyte. Also, ensure the area is well vented to avoid the buildup of explosive hydrogen gas.

It's always best to keep your lead acid batteries topped off after use (both water and charge) and store them in a fully charged state. Use of 10 amps in the charge is best on smart chargers.
