i have an 80 wellcraft sportsman 248. mercruiser 260 and alpha one drive. points ignition and 4brl carb. i am in the process of replacing the alternator, starter slave solenoid, and 50 amp circuit breaker. they all had problems with corrosion and wiring. the wiring harness on the engine has been messed with but i seen to have located all the original wires and plan on connecting them properly. there was also a battery isolator installed i believe from mercruiser which was also bad. i want to install another one. what is the proper wiring for it with a delco 3-wire alternator using the factory harness. i also have 1-2-all battery switch installed. is the isolator installed before the switch, seperate from the switch, in conjuction with it. i have seen so many diagrams online but none mercruiser specific. i.e which color wire and where it get disconnected and connected with the isolator and 3 way switch installed.
i wanna do this right and not be wondering why i have dead batteries in the future. also i was considering a solar battery charger. any thoughts?
