I just bought a used pleasure craft as being first time owning a boat. I bought it without battery. The boat is a 1989 Capri from Bayliner 17 foot with outboard engine (3 cyl). I have no idea what is the right battery for this boat? Your assistance is greatly appreciated. Thank you

for a single battery on an outboard, any 450cca group 24 combination starting battery would be fine

Welcome, Horse.

What 3 cylinder motor?

Most likely any flooded cell marine starting battery will work fine. Knowing what motor you have will help in matching the charging system with the right type of battery.

I personally like using deep cycle batteries as main starting batteries on my boats, they tend to last much longer and also deal with lots of stereo use far better. (just ripped out my group 24 and put in a nice giant group 31 deep cycle) In any case, measure your battery box and buy whatever fits in there. As Scott mentioned above, it is most likely a group 24.

Thanks for all your response. I managed to get the battery type - it is Marine Type/Voltage 12/Rating - 70Amp minimum. I guess with the group 24 like Scott says would be okay?
