Battery Question, ?

I have 2 battery's, which I removed from the boat in Nov 2001.<br /> Since that time I have put them on a 10 amp charger, at least once a month.<br /> They both were showing full charge in approx. 2 mins.<br /> I am ready to install the Batteries this wkend, and I put them on the charger.<br /> Now after 2+ hours they are not showing a full charge.<br /> They are both holding at approx 2amp.to full charge.<br /> What is the the problem? thanks.

Go to wallmart get their best battery,s for your needs . Had one left out in Winter ,went bad took it back no questions asked. Been thru this on another post about Johnson Control making what batterys

TO do it right..<br /><br />You need to check the specific gravity of each cell. This tells you the state of charge of the battery (dont go by the battery chargers meter)<br /><br />Then if that passes you need to do a Load check on the battery. If that passes your good to go. You cannot go by just what a voltmeter (or amp) says on your charger. YOu need more info on doing a specific gravity check? This check is not done much at autoparts stores..But should be. In my business If I changed out a 500.00 battery and it did not fix the problem...Guess who gets mad at me??????

Sulfation is the # 1 cause of battery failure. <br />When you batteries are left to discharge during the winter or times of low usage they develop lead sulfate crystals on the plates. There is a product called Batteryminder that will keep your batteries charged and protected during that layup time and be ready for use when spring comes. It generates a resonant pulse current to breakdown the lead sulfate crystals. Costs about $40. and a search on Google will bring up several sites that sell them. This is an excellant product and it works on just one or a bank of batteries.
