Battery Question

Here is the set up: A Minn Kota PD 55# which is 12V, 2 depth finders and my bow and stern night lights. I was wondering what kind of battery set up I should look for. I have a 14' Aluminum Deep-V, so there is not alot of power needs such a bilge pump, starter, etc.... Should I have a seperate battery for the trolling motor or could I run all of this and get away with a bigger battery.

Re: Battery Question

I think unless you would get some frequency interference in the depth finder while running the trolling motor, you would be OK kap. I would however try and get the largest deep cycle battery my wallet would allow.

Re: Battery Question

Ok, I got another battery question. I purchased a battery at wal-mart at most 2 years ago, the manufacturer date is May of 2003. I never used it and I have had it stored in my garage on a wodden stand. It is a 12 Volt EverStart deep cycle marine battery with 75 amp hours and 100 reserve capacity. Is this battery even worth trying to recover considering what I plan to run on this battery. If so, how should I go about charging it and how long will it last me. I also plan to get an onboard charger, so with this in mind, is this worth it?

Re: Battery Question

Hey Kap, its worth a try, give it a full charge, let it sit for awhile and see if its still fully charged.I'm not a fan of everstart batteries I've had 2 sets of them that only lasted a year.If you need to replace it see if you can find a trojan deep cycle.

Jim

Re: Battery Question

Yep...what Jim said. Setting idle for long periods of time with out charging is a batteries worstest enemy. But give it a try.

WOW! Somebody actually has heard of our small village..... :) :) How long ago has that been kap?

Re: Battery Question

I think your deep cycle function may save you from your storage dilema. One problem that you won't have to worry about is high internal resistance, caused by sulfating of the plates.

Since you aren't trying to start a 350 cu in V8 you don't have a high current demand, so a degraded battery (high internal impedance) wouldn't be a problem for you like it would if you were trying to start the V8.

Course you don't necessarily have that problem. Just saying that in case you did.

Mark
