Hello all-

I've checked previous posts, but did not really find what I was looking for.

I currently have 3 gel batteries onboard with a Merc 150. 1 "standard" gel for starting, and 2 deep cycle gels in parallel for other stuff. Over the winter I'll rewire to make sure everything else is off the starter. Once a year I check the batteries charge capacity, and this year they were still at about 98 to 120% of the rating. I'll replace a battery when it gets down to about 75%.

I have a ON/OFF switch between the two banks. When running, I turn to ON to charge all three batteries, and when stopped, I turn to OFF to save the starter battery. It's worked ok so far...

Problem is, I keep forgetting to hit the switch. It's only a matter of time before I'm rowing home.

I've used isolators in my RV's for years with no problems. How are they on the water? The boat is trailered, fresh water only, and I'm on the water once a week. Once or twice a year I'll be on the water for 4 or 5 days straight. I'm looking to have one less thing to think about, but is there a reliabilty issue with isolators on the water?

Also, is there a problem hooking up my charger to the system with an isolator in place?

Will the standard voltage regulator from a 92 Black Max 150 be enough to handle 3 batteries or should that be replaced?

Thanks for any opinions...
