I got all the controls done today, and i tried turning over the motor. Of course my luck it wouldnt start after spending so much on the new controls for it, but i noticed something strange... The barrety started smoking while it was turning over on the + side terminal.

Being that the battery is near the gas tank I immidiatly called it a day. Any idea on what this could be?

Most likely a bad connection at the positive battery cable connector. Clean it and the post of the battery really well.
While you're at it, clean up the other connections.

wire brush and some coke will do the trick on the battery post, coke eats that stuff up

sandpaper on the ends of the cables will clean them up

If cleaning things up doesnt do it, (Thats the normal cause), You have an internal short in your battery, new or old, its time for a new one.

Careful with those battery shorts. Had a cell blow on me one time!
