So I have a battery switch in my boat that says off 1,2,or both.if I turn both battery's on does that mean I'm throwing 24v at my starter or is it still 12v going to it.im asking because I never had a battery switch before. And if I turn the switch to both batteries would I be able to charge both batteries at the same time or no.and just charge 1 at a time by turning the knob on the switch one at a time. I'm asking so I don't ruin or short any wiring out or fry anything in my boat. I'd just like to know what's going on and that's it. I posted alot of other threads on here about different things I'm having problems with and when I was on here responding to a message that's when I went in the proper places to post the right things I have going on. Thank you dan

“Both” is still 12 VDC. Batteries in parallel

Yes, you charge both batteries on “Both” but keep in mind using “Both” in effect makes one big battery.

One battery with 100% charge and one battery with 50% (technically dead) charge when combined makes both batteries 75%.
