Re: Battery type

Does your motor have an alternator, do you run accessories from your starting battery?
marine batteries are made for marine applications. Of course you could use an auto battery but probably would not last that long (vibration, environment, etc) i actually tried that (for a trolling motor once)
didn't get me very far:facepalm:

Re: Battery type

Do I really need a marine battery for my outboard or can I use a auto battery
It's hard to comment without knowing the application. I have a 1968 Fibra and I have installed a starting battery to handle the high amp discharge of starting as well as a Deep Cycle which deals with steady loads better. I have an isolater so that I can switch away from the starting battery so I don't accidentally strand myself.

Re: Battery type

I currently use 3 stinger batteries--the starter battery which is dual use and two for the trolling motor(deep cycle only) The starter battery runs all the electronics and the other two are for the trolling motor only (in series for 24v operation)
