Hi all,
I'm planning to attach an Endura 36 transom mount trolling motor on my searay 180. I plan to attached it to the boat's main battery. I'm just curious if that's OK and how often I have to start the boat motor to charge the battery if I plan to run the trolling more for say five or six hours. I'm just concern that the main battery might die on me. Also, are there any concerns with the trolling motor disrupting the electrical system in the boat. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Re: Battery usage

What size battery do you have and what size charging system?

Generally speaking, a 12 volt kicker draws big amps. It is always better to have a dedicated deepcycle battery that you can charge up once you get home OR do what boatist does, charge off the car on the return trip from the ramp.

Aldo

Re: Battery usage

If your main motor has a 30 amp alternator or more then you can just let your main motor run at fast idle and you will be ok. Anything less I hope you have a couple of good paddles or a sail.
If you are going to run a electric trolling motor then you need a big Deep Cycle battery (Group 27).
