I have just purchased a deep cycle battery,

Specs:
Premium marine starting and deep cycle battery
Engineered for power, stamina and reliability
Start your boat and/or power accessories such as trolling motors or electronics
Group size 27
730 marine cranking amps, 100 amp hours, reserve capacity of 160 minutes
Dimensions are 12 (L) x 6-13/16 (W) x 9-7/16" (H) (30 x 17 x 24 cm)

Will this be ok to run my 30 lb thrust motor, and being new to boating I wanted to go in this direction to save spending a lot on a motor and Gas mixing and that sort of thing...I have a Zodiac cadet 340 solid, realizing I can run a motor but being a senior and being in no hurry,
Thanks,
Bryan.

yep, that should work fine,,, remember to keep it charged between uses.... you dont have an alternator there as found in boat engines that keep the battery charged.. eventually, if you use your electric motor enough, you may end up buying a gas engine to replace it your electric and ask yourself why you ever bought the electric... enjoy!

Oh I had one more question...If used moderately on one trip, should I be able to get a couple of hours,,
Thanks for your prompt reply on my first question.

It's actually not the correct battery, you bought a dual purpose battery, you should have purchased a deep cycle battery. This battery will have a much shorter run time and a much shorter life span than a single purpose deep cycle. Will it work, yes, just not nearly as well as the correct one will.

Thanks, I have returned the battery at Canadian Tire and the search continues for the proper Battery, I have checked out Wal-Mart and they have a deep cell Max 29DC for $129.00, it also has a Cranking Power listed. Not sure if this will do or do all the Marine/RV batteries have this listed(cranking power).

Your looking for reserve minutes. I use Lifeline batteries and they cost more but have lasted longer then any battery I have ever tried. Manufactures will always list CCA's but in your application look for the amount of reserve minutes. Below is a link to Lifelines specifications and you can use them for comparison.

Also these are AGM type which means you cannot use a standard battery charger with them, they would need an AGM type charger

Thanks AllDodge, can you tell me if this battery at the WalMart would be ok for me (Max29DC $129,00). Thanks, for your help in selecting the right battery. Reason for going to the walmart its close and I need a DC for the upcoming weekend.

Thanks Again,

Bryan.

Howdy Brian, from the ones you have found I would go back to Canadian Tire and get the battery you had. While there are better it wasn't that bad. Had 100 amper hour rating and 160 minutes reserve (didn't mention at what rating), but it wasn't that far off from the lifeline group 27AGM. IMO it will work good enough without going high dollar

Yes, this is a deep cycle battery of a large size. It will work great, especially if you have a modern trolling motor that uses pulse modulation for speed control- if you don't get a hernia lifting it in and out of the boat.
