Bayline Capri, 1986, no condenser on my aq131a points

Boat has been running rough, found out the points haven't been changed in a long while, replaced them and then noticed there isn't a condenser for the points? I got a condenser from autozone and since I can't mount it inside I figured I would mount it outside and run the wire inside. I noticed these little metal caps on the side of the distributor and figured, hey these are probably there for this exact reason. Popped one out and then realized the thing might be a vent of some sort after inspecting it. At this point I do some googling and find out it's actually a vent cap.

A few questions:
1. What is the best way to sort out the vent cap which I ruined removing?
2. Why isn't there a condenser on these points?
3. What is the recommended way to install a condenser on this?

I'm an idiot, just realized the condenser is mounted to the side and isn't super easy to see. I guess I need to pull the distributor out to test the condensor.

To fix the vent cap I am thinking about putting some hvac metal tape over the hole and poking a couple small holes in it to mimic the original distributor vent cap.

I would try and get back to original condition. How about a true upgrade (vs your hacks) that get to a electronic - no points ignition?

Not looking to spend a bunch of money on a new ignition system, boat probably doesn't have much life left in it. I need to figure out how to repair the damage I did by removing the vent cap and the best way to resolve it.

Not sure what this vent cap looks like or if it is a welch plug but I would think you could JB Weld it back in

See photo below, just a little metal plug reset in each of those three points is a tiny hole. I kept the remains of the plug and I think I have enough of it to JB weld in. I'll give it a shot.

Doing some research it's there to prevent condensation inside the distributor during cold weather. I think I could probably just seal it shut since I only operate it in warm weather, plus there is another vent on the other side. Gonna go the JB route first.
