Bayliner 175 question

Hi My 2000 model Bayliner 175 has a kind of slot on each side of the inside of the boat where the rear most 2 seats are. The slots are about 3/4inch high and 10 inches long about 4 inches below the sides of the boat and have a plastic surround.

What are they for? My best guess was that it was to fit some kind of table / shelf across but why?

shelf across but why?
that'd be my guess. the shelf would also be called a sun pad. many new boats have this shelf across this (the engine and in lieu of the 2 aft seats) space.

They are for taking your rear seat bottoms, and fit into the slot, to make a sun lounge.

It is so your back seat cushions can be raised (clipped into these slots) to make a lounge.
