Hi there, I own a Bayliner 192 Capri (2001) with the "great" VDO instrument cluster.
Here I have the following problem:

- Unfortunately, my speedometer is currently not working at all.

- The tachometer shows 1000 RPM too little, which means that when I drive at around 2500 RPM, the tachometer only shows 1500.

Does anyone of you have an idea how I can solve these problems?

Thank you for your help.

On the speedo, usual problem is the pitot tube hole in the leading edge of the lower unit is plugged with caked mud. "Gently" clear it out with a drill bit by hand (don't go drilling it with your cordless) and squirting water in there to clear. You can see it's clear by disconnecting the hose from the drive and squirting water in hole tou just cleared out and observing water coming from where the hose was connected.

For the tach, on the back is a rotary switch that allows setting for the engine number of cyl. Move that switch back and forth a few full times, stop to stop, and then reset to the # of cyl you have 4,6 or 8. 90% of the time, that fixes a "broken" tach. (those contacts in there get dirty / a little corrosion and make tach do what you are seeing.)

Thank you. I already cleaned up the whole tube. I checked with air, but still the speedo is not moving at all. I thought maybe this special instrument cluster has a electrical measuring method..

The problem in the tacho is that this instrument cluster has just one circuit board, thats why I do not know how to check.. I also do not have schematics for the whole wiring. Does anyone has a idea?

you have individual gauges with a chunk of circuit board behind them to make the connections.

there is nothing bad or special

your speedo is connected to the pitot tube pickup via a small black tube. its either broken or your pitot tube is plugged

with a new tube at the dash, just blowing you should get about 5-10mph so back-flush the tube with water (about 15-20 psi max) and keep proding the pitot tube until it clears)

your tach is most likely set on the wrong setting.

you dont need schematics. you need to look on the tach itself and set the switches correctly (there is either a rotary switch or a series of dip switches.
