Just got this boat and the wiring is a disaster of unconnected, snipped off, and dodgy non original wires. By way of example, the dash board has 13 switches with no wires on the back. The remaining switches do work, but for example there are two horn switches, one of those is one of the thirteen now residing on my workbench. Any help desperately appreciated. Engine is the 5.0 litre carby Mercruiser GM thing. I am also in the process of converting the engine to FWC (Fresh Water Cooling) which is a challenge too, as people advertise kits, but don't have any in stock, and usually don't know when they will have stock..............

Boat manufacturers tend not to publish much information about their wiring, plumbing, etc. Most of the information is published by the engine manufacturer (Mercruiser). So, you can search parts list for your engine via serial number and get about 80% of what you may need.

Converting to closed cooling (aka fresh water cooling) can be a challenge on an older boat, as rust within an engine's cooling system can block the coolant flow through the heat exchanger.

If the boat has been used in salt water, then it probably cannot be converted to closed cooling with any success. If entirely fresh water, then a good flushing and oxallic acid purge would be a good thing to do.

How is the boat itself? Any structural rot to deal with?
