Hi Guys
Im new to the site and would appreciate some help and advice, Im new to boating as well so I really am in the dark here?

I have a Bayliner 2858 with a 6.2 (195bhp) general motors diesel through a bravo 3 leg to a stainless duo prop. The engine runs really nice but when I open her up she wont get on the plane? she plods along at about 8knts! I have taken a friend with 16 years experience and he is baffled as well.

any help would be appreciated.

Re: Bayliner 2858 Flybridge

That's a lotta boat(dry wt 7610lbs) for a single small diesel to push.

The motor should be able to wind up to 3600 rpm at WOT. Is it getting anywhere near that?

What year is the boat/engine?

How long have you had this boat? Has it ever performed properly?

Assuming 1.5 or 1.65(diesel only) gear ratios, the Mercury prop selector recommends a 19 pitch prop set that it says should do about 34 mph at 3500 rpm.

See if the gear ratio is stamped on the outdrive. Get us the rpm,and the prop size.
prop numbers are probably under the prop nut.

Re: Bayliner 2858 Flybridge

I will try to get the info, asap. The boat is new to me, but the previous owner has told me that the prop is a 28" pitch stainless duo prop. But that there was no marking on the leg case to indicate the current gearing. I appreciate the help guys looking like a gearbox issue at moment.

Based On jestor's info 28" sounds like way way too high.Is that 28 perhaps a prop set number?
