The blue gelcoat has gone cloudy and hand polishing doesn't last long. The marina suggests wet sanding and power polishing followed by waxing twice over a summmer. But since its above water and automotive spray cans have better nozzels why don't I masque it and spray it blue followed by a clear coat? Fading finished.....

I know how tempting it is, Sony. But don't do it. It won't last much longer than the polish, due to the abrasive affects of the water, and the fact that fiberglass is prone to allowing water to weep thru. You have probably seen the affects of this at a nearby ramp.A boat with large patches of paint missing. I'm not saying it can't be painted, I'm just saying steer clear of the auto paint, except for the high-end Vette formulations. Imron is one such paint. It should last several seasons, and more if trailered. But it aint cheap. I would wait until it just cant be polished anymore.
The art of buffing-out a jellcoat is something you might want to watch performed before performing it. To do it the way it should be done takes time ,a light hand, and high speed foam wheel. But the results will shock you. You'll need shades
I never tried the baby oil trick, but it sounds like it couldn't hurt to try it.

A light coat of Baby Oil brings back the colour and gives a great shine and its easy to apply. I've used spray cans on small repairs but i would'nt like to spray a large area this way. If you are determined to respray I found a polyurethane two pack paint gives a great finish and a hard lasting gloss, you will need a spray gun for this solution I think. Good luck, Terry

Thanks: I'll start with the home remedy. A close friend sold Rolite and still has a polisher and lambswool pads. If painting was the way to go more people would be doing it.
