I have a chance to get a Capri for $400 with trailer, no motor. I have an 85 HP force that I would put on it. Would this be enough motor, the motor that was on the boat was a 115 mercury. I would hate to buy and not be able to push it! :(

.what year as well as make/model?
These boats can be good if properly taken care of by previous owner. check deck, transom, stringers for rot...a common problem if not kept dry. At least then you know what you are getting into. Your motor might be enough depending on the model of the Capri. Good luck, Joe

My 85 Capri Cuddy 16' does about 40mph with the 85hp under best conditions (12 gal gas and two little kids). Your performance will degrade proportionate to the increase in boat length.

Can't say for sure, but my guess would be a 17' Capri will do 35mph with the 85 and a 19' will probably get on plane but not do more than 20mph or so.

Re: Bayliner Capri

I ended up with a 1990 Bayliner Capri. The interior is pretty bad but the rest of the boat is rock solid! I will put my 85 Force on it even though it says rated 90 I should be OK. I mean 90 is underpowered as it is. The boat is 18 foot I think 120 would be better. I know a few of you have this set up with the 90 hp motor. I cant wait to run her tomorrow!:)
