I have a 1987 Bayliner Capri Bow Rider?Engine is a 2.3LR 110h.p. 4 Cylinder ?Ford? I/O with the o.m.c cobra outdrive. I just got the boat and i did a oil change, change fuel filter water separator, change spark plugs and put a brand new battery. I took it to the lake this past weekend. It started fine but when i gave it full throttle the engine died and it was hard to start the engine again. I had to use starting fluid. What can be wrong with the engine? Any tips? This is my first boat. thanks

IF you use starting fluid often enough, that will be the reason you will be looking for a new engine. Loose it.

Have you done a tuneup lately? Is gas squirting from the accelerator pump outlets in the carb? During that tuneup, you need to check the point dwell and set the timing. Might want to do a compression test also.
After that, see if it all works.

I have no idea how to do all that since i am not a mechanic. Where is the accelerator pump? and how do you set the timing?
I should just take it to a marine mechanic. Thanks for your help.

Welcome to I boats and boat ownership.....

This is a fun, expensive hobbie and Im sure you heard...

Just because you own a boat doesnt make you a boater. There's a few things you should know if your going to own a boat. I would get my hands on a manual and start reading and getting familure with your motor and drive.
