I understand that JetBoats don't have a true neutral, but with the Bayliner Jazz having a "throttle only" pull-out button(silver button) on the control, shouldn't the impeller not spin when this is pulled out? I've attached a photo not of mine, but I have the same one. My impeller still spins with this button pulled out. Thank you in advance!

So with my experience with jet powered craft, the impeller always spins. Are you sure clicking that button doesn't just drop a gate down which goes over the jet nozzle and stops the boat from moving.

No the button pulls out and is supposed to then only give you throttle only I believe. I found starting instructions and though vague, that's kind of what it implies

The starting instructions say this " With the throttle lever in NEUTRAL, pull out the "throttle only button" to permit throttle travel in Neutral without engaging the transmission. Next move the throttle lever to the full open position and leave it there. Turn the ignition key to start the motor.Once started return the throttle lever to Neutral"

When your in neutral the gate is positioned so the boat doesn't move (neutral). You pull the handle out and now when the throttle is move to rev the motor up, the gate does not move, therefore you stay in neutral. Push the handle back in and if you move the handle forward the gate is moved allowing forward propulsion.

By pulling the handle your disengaging the cable which controls the gate. Similar thing happens with an I/O

The " With the throttle lever in NEUTRAL, pull out the "throttle only button" to permit throttle travel in Neutral without engaging the transmission" statement is poor tech writing and lack of quality control by the Bayliner documentation department. Jet drives, at least Mercury SportJets, don't have a transmission to shift. How the control is able to control selection of Neutral only, I'm sure it''s like a normal control where the Neutral Only button disconnects the combined throttle and shift function.

This explains Neutral in the last paragraph; sportjetneut.PNG

Thanks folks...yep the "engaging of the transmission" terminology had me scratching my head and the term "throttle only"
