Im looking for a bit of info about my boat. I have a 16' bayliner Cobra bass boat with a 70hp force motor. Now I have a friend that has a 1995 90hp Johnson I would like to put on my boat. The problem is I dont know what my boat is rated for motor wize. I didnt know if anyone here could point me in the right direction.
Thanks

Someplace on your boat, either near the helm or the transom, is a capacity plate that will tell you what your max ratings are. If you read enough here, it is strongly discouraged to exceed these.

My opinion only. What ever extra weight the 90 has will not be a problem. Big problem is the extra power that you have available. My experience is that the extra torque the motor puts out can be uncontrolable, especially if the boat is heavly loaded. Imagine driving a ford pinto with a 427 cu. on a wet road. Would be prudent to install some kind of throttle stop to limit the hp. available. Speed and power are nice but there is a limit. Not like tooling down the road in a big old BUICK ESTATE WAGON. There is a sticker that shows 70hp motor along with the max total weight the boat can handle. This must be the sticker you are refurring to. Well it looks like the 90 is out
Thanks

If the "sticker" states 70, then 70 is the legal max.
